Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups red lentils (masoor dal), soaked for 2 hours and drained
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 green chillies, chopped (adjust to taste)
  • Handful of chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Lentil Batter:
    • Soak the red lentils in water for 2 hours. Drain the water thoroughly.
    • Blend the soaked lentils to a coarse paste using a food processor or blender.
  2. Mixing Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, combine the blended lentils with chopped onions, green chillies, chopped coriander, and salt to taste.
    • Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
    • Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Frying:
    • Heat oil in a frying pan or skillet over medium heat.
    • Take spoonfuls of the lentil mixture and gently drop them into the hot oil, shaping them into flat patties (like pancakes) with the back of the spoon.
    • Fry the fritters until golden brown and crispy on both sides, flipping them carefully to ensure even cooking.
  4. Serve:
    • Once cooked, remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
    • Serve hot with chutney, yogurt, or any dipping sauce of your choice.
