Preparation Time

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 35–40 minutes
  • Total Time: 50–55 minutes
  • Servings: 6

Ingredients

For the Cabbage

  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Garlic Butter Bacon Topping

  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.

Step 2: Slice the Cabbage

Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Using a sharp knife, cut the cabbage into thick rounds approximately ¾ to 1 inch thick.

Step 3: Arrange on Baking Sheet

Carefully place the cabbage slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Leave a small amount of space between each steak.

Step 4: Season the Cabbage

Brush both sides of each cabbage steak with olive oil. Sprinkle evenly with salt and black pepper.

Step 5: Prepare the Bacon

Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess grease, then crumble into small pieces.

Step 6: Make the Garlic Butter Mixture

In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and crumbled bacon.

Step 7: Add the Topping

Spoon the garlic butter bacon mixture generously over each cabbage steak, allowing some of the mixture to settle into the center layers.

Step 8: Roast

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 30–40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the edges are golden brown.

Step 9: Optional Broiling

For extra crispiness, switch the oven to broil during the final 2–3 minutes of cooking. Watch carefully to prevent burning.

Step 10: Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

Helpful Tips for Perfect Roasted Cabbage Steaks

Use Thick Slices

Thicker cabbage steaks hold together better during roasting and provide a more satisfying texture.

Don’t Skip the Butter

The butter helps keep the cabbage moist while enhancing flavor throughout the roasting process.

Roast Until Caramelized

The deeper golden-brown edges contribute significantly to the final flavor.

Add Cheese Variations

Try Asiago, Romano, Gruyère, or sharp cheddar for a unique twist.

Make It Spicier

Add red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the butter mixture for extra heat.

Storage Instructions

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a 375°F oven for 8–10 minutes to restore crispness.

Freezing

While possible, freezing may soften the cabbage texture. For best results, enjoy fresh or refrigerated.
