Cabbage Fritters with Chipotle Dipping Sauce

Cabbage fritters are a delightful treat that are not only easy to make but also fun to eat. With their crispy edges and soft, crunchy interior, they are sure to become a favorite snack or side dish. Pair them with sour cream or a homemade Chipotle dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor. Here’s how to make them:

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 11 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream, plus more for serving
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning of choice (e.g., Mrs. Dash Seasoning blend)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or preferred vegetable oil (for brushing the fritters)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F/190°C.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables: Remove the top leaves from the cabbage and finely shred it. You can use a food processor for easy shredding. Also, finely chop the carrot.
  3. Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, chopped carrot, salt, pepper, seasoning, sour cream, egg, and flour. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Form the Fritters: Using your hands, pick up a small amount of the mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and roll it into a ball shape. If the mixture becomes sticky, wet your hands slightly. Place the formed balls in a single layer in the air fryer basket or tray.
  5. Shape and Cook: Using a spoon, gently press down on each ball to form a pancake shape, approximately 1/2 inch in thickness. Lightly spray each fritter with oil spray or brush them with oil. Air fry for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown with caramelized edges.
  6. Serve: Let the fritters cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm or chilled with a dollop of sour cream or dip them into a delicious garlicky Chipotle sauce.

Notes:

  • You can use parchment paper to line the air fryer basket for easy flipping and to prevent sticking.
  • Substitute gluten-free flour or almond flour for a gluten-free option.
  • Feel free to add any seasoning of your choice to customize the flavor.
  • For extra flavor, add fresh herbs such as finely chopped dill or green onions to the mixture.
  • For a loaded cabbage fritter experience, top them with cooked bacon pieces, a dollop of sour cream, and chopped green onions or chives. Enjoy!

Cabbage fritters are easy to make, fun to eat, and taste great with sour cream or a homemade Chipotle dipping sauce. Easily bindable and cooked on parchment paper mess-free, I love how they turn out with caramelized crispy edges and soft crunchy inside, thanks to the crunchy cabbage.
