VEGAN CRISPY GARLIC SOY TOFU
Ingredients:
- 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (optional)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tofu:
- Press the tofu to remove excess water. You can use a tofu press or wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top. Let it press for at least 15-20 minutes.
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- Coat Tofu:
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, cornstarch, and nutritional yeast (if using). Add the tofu cubes to the mixture and gently toss until the tofu is well-coated.
- Pan-fry Tofu:
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the coated tofu cubes to the pan, ensuring they are in a single layer. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare Garlic Soy Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix together minced garlic, minced ginger, maple syrup, rice vinegar, and water.
- Combine:
- Once the tofu is crispy, pour the garlic soy sauce mixture over the tofu in the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu evenly.
- Finish Cooking:
- Allow the tofu to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, letting the sauce thicken and coat the tofu.
- Serve:
- Remove the pan from heat. Transfer the crispy garlic soy tofu to a serving plate.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Enjoy:
- Serve your Vegan Crispy Garlic Soy Tofu over rice or noodles. It’s a flavorful and satisfying vegan dish!
