Flan, also known as crème caramel, is a silky smooth, creamy custard dessert topped with a rich caramel sauce. Making flan in the air fryer is quick and easy, and it still results in that melt-in-your-mouth texture. With the Philips Airfryer, you’ll be able to cook the flan evenly and quickly, leaving you with a deliciously indulgent dessert!
Overview:
Flan is a classic Spanish and Latin American dessert made with eggs, milk, and sugar, topped with a glossy caramel sauce. The air fryer’s even heat circulation gives it the perfect creamy texture without the need for an oven or stovetop. The caramel sauce forms on the bottom of the dish, which flips beautifully when you serve it.
Ingredients:
For the Caramel:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
For the Flan:
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt

Instructions:
- Prepare the caramel:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns golden brown (about 5-7 minutes). Be careful not to burn it. Once it reaches the desired color, quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of an oven-safe ramekin or flan dish (make sure it’s small enough to fit into your air fryer). Tilt the dish to coat the bottom evenly with the caramel. Let it sit and harden while you make the flan. - Make the flan custard:
In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, 1/4 cup of sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and well-combined. - Pour the custard into the ramekin:
Slowly pour the flan custard mixture into the ramekin over the hardened caramel. If you have any air bubbles, tap the ramekin gently on the counter to remove them. - Prepare the air fryer:
Preheat your Philips Airfryer to 320°F (160°C) for about 3 minutes. - Cook the flan:
Place the ramekin into the air fryer basket. Cook at 320°F (160°C) for 20-25 minutes. Check for doneness by gently shaking the ramekin. The flan should be set but slightly wobbly in the center. If it’s still liquid in the center, cook for an additional 5 minutes. - Cool and chill:
Once done, carefully remove the ramekin from the air fryer and allow the flan to cool at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. Then refrigerate it for at least 2-3 hours to set completely. - Serve:
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it from the ramekin. Invert the ramekin onto a plate and gently lift it off. The caramel should pour out and cover the flan, creating a glossy topping.
