- 15 ml (1 tbsp) avocado oil
- 75 g (1/2 cup) onion, diced
- 75 g (1/2 cup) green bell pepper, diced
- 454 g (1 lb) Italian sausage
- 454 g (1 lb) ground beef
- 425 g (1 3/4 cups) sugar-free marinara sauce (such as Rao’s Homemade)
- 225 g (2 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 50 g (1/2 cup) grated parmesan cheese
- 90 g (30 slices) pepperoni
- 30 g (1/4 cup) sliced black olives (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to broil.
- In a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat, heat the avocado oil and sauté the onion and bell pepper until soft, about 10 minutes.
- Add the sausage and ground beef and cook, breaking them up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drain the excess fat from the skillet and discard.
- Stir in the marinara sauce and spread it evenly over the meat mixture. Sprinkle the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses on top. Arrange the pepperoni slices over the cheese layer. Sprinkle the olives if using.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
- Cut into 8 slices and serve hot or warm.
