Ingredients

  • 2 lbs uncooked ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 poblano peppers, seeded and chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 6 slices cheese of your choice (e.g., Havarti, cheddar, or Monterey Jack)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: guacamole, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Burger Patties:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, dried minced onion, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated. Form the mixture into 6 equal-sized patties.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your Air Fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes. Preheating helps ensure the patties cook evenly and develop a nice crust.
  3. Cook the Burger Patties:
    • Place the burger patties in the Air Fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for a medium doneness.
  4. Sauté the Poblano Peppers:
    • While the burgers are cooking, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped poblano peppers and sauté until they are tender and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add Cheese to the Burgers:
    • During the last 2 minutes of cooking, open the Air Fryer and place a slice of cheese on each patty. Close the Air Fryer and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  6. Assemble the Burgers:
    • Remove the patties from the Air Fryer and place them on hamburger buns. Top each patty with the sautéed poblano peppers and your choice of additional toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, guacamole, or condiments.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the burgers hot with your favorite sides like French fries, a fresh salad, or a classic potato salad. Enjoy the rich, smoky flavor of these juicy Air Fryer burgers!

Notes

  • Cheese Options: Feel free to choose any cheese that suits your taste. Havarti is creamy and mild, while cheddar adds a sharper flavor. Customize based on your preference.
  • Bun Choices: Consider using brioche, pretzel, or whole wheat buns for a different flavor profile.
  • Serving Suggestions: Pair these burgers with classic sides like coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or a chilled cucumber salad.
  • Air Fryer Tips: The cooking time may vary depending on your Air Fryer model. Always check the internal temperature of the patties to ensure they’re cooked to your liking.
  • Grilling Alternative: This recipe can easily be adapted for an outdoor grill if preferred. Grill the patties over medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes per side, adding the cheese during the last minute.
