Air Fryer Homemade Flaxseed Bread
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed (or flaxseed meal)
- 1 tablespoon whole flaxseeds (optional, for texture)
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter)
- Olive oil or cooking spray (for greasing)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, sugar (or honey), and yeast. Stir to combine and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Add the olive oil (or melted butter), salt, ground flaxseed, and whole flaxseeds to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may need slightly more or less flour depending on the humidity and type of flour used.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Bread:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- Divide the dough into equal portions (if making multiple loaves) and shape each portion into a round loaf or fit it into greased air fryer-safe pans or dishes.
- Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes, or until slightly puffed up.
- Preheat the Air Fryer:
- Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
- Air Fry the Bread:
- Lightly spray or brush the tops of the loaves with olive oil.
- Place the pans or dishes with the dough into the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to bake them one at a time.
- Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 18-22 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.
- If the top is browning too quickly, you can cover it with aluminum foil while the inside continues to cook.
- Cool and Serve:
- Once done, carefully remove the bread from the air fryer and let it cool on a wire rack.
- Slice and enjoy your homemade flaxseed bread warm or at room temperature.
