Air Fryer Homemade Flaxseed Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed (or flaxseed meal)
  • 1 tablespoon whole flaxseeds (optional, for texture)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter)
  • Olive oil or cooking spray (for greasing)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, sugar (or honey), and yeast. Stir to combine and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
    • Add the olive oil (or melted butter), salt, ground flaxseed, and whole flaxseeds to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
    • Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may need slightly more or less flour depending on the humidity and type of flour used.
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  2. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  3. Shape the Bread:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
    • Divide the dough into equal portions (if making multiple loaves) and shape each portion into a round loaf or fit it into greased air fryer-safe pans or dishes.
    • Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes, or until slightly puffed up.
  4. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Air Fry the Bread:
    • Lightly spray or brush the tops of the loaves with olive oil.
    • Place the pans or dishes with the dough into the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to bake them one at a time.
    • Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 18-22 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.
    • If the top is browning too quickly, you can cover it with aluminum foil while the inside continues to cook.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Once done, carefully remove the bread from the air fryer and let it cool on a wire rack.
    • Slice and enjoy your homemade flaxseed bread warm or at room temperature.
