Ingredients:
- 1 block (about 14 oz) extra-firm tofu
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon Jamaican spice blend (or substitute with your preferred spicy seasoning)
- 2 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2-3 tablespoons Frank’s RedHot Sauce (adjust to taste)
- 2-3 tablespoons Tangy Bangy sauce (or another tangy/spicy sauce)
- 1 tablespoon garlic bagel seasoning
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Salt, to taste
- Cooking spray or oil
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tofu:
- Press the tofu: Wrap the tofu block in paper towels or a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top (like a cast iron skillet or a few heavy books) to press out excess water for about 20-30 minutes. Alternatively, use a tofu press if you have one.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Seasoning:
- In a bowl, mix together minced garlic, turmeric powder, Jamaican spice blend, cornflour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Coat the Tofu:
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles.
- Toss the tofu pieces in the seasoning mixture until well coated.
- Bake the Tofu:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease with cooking spray or oil.
- Arrange the tofu pieces on the baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is crispy and golden brown.
- Finish the Dish:
- In a large bowl, combine Frank’s RedHot Sauce and Tangy Bangy sauce.
- Once the tofu is baked, transfer it to the bowl with the sauces and toss gently until evenly coated.
- Sprinkle garlic bagel seasoning over the tofu bites and toss again to incorporate.
- Serve:
- Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
