VEGAN CRISPY GARLIC SOY TOFU

Ingredients:

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:
    • Press the tofu to remove excess water. You can use a tofu press or wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place something heavy on top. Let it press for at least 15-20 minutes.
    • Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Coat Tofu:
    • In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, cornstarch, and nutritional yeast (if using). Add the tofu cubes to the mixture and gently toss until the tofu is well-coated.
  3. Pan-fry Tofu:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add the coated tofu cubes to the pan, ensuring they are in a single layer. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Prepare Garlic Soy Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together minced garlic, minced ginger, maple syrup, rice vinegar, and water.
  5. Combine:
    • Once the tofu is crispy, pour the garlic soy sauce mixture over the tofu in the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu evenly.
  6. Finish Cooking:
    • Allow the tofu to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, letting the sauce thicken and coat the tofu.
  7. Serve:
    • Remove the pan from heat. Transfer the crispy garlic soy tofu to a serving plate.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
  8. Enjoy:
    • Serve your Vegan Crispy Garlic Soy Tofu over rice or noodles. It’s a flavorful and satisfying vegan dish!
